Big Sky Ballooning uses experienced pilots and our flight operators are fully registered commercial airlines who specialise in hot air ballooning. We consider your safety and your experience as the most important part of our safari. Our hot air balloon safaris fly predominantly over the Dinokeng Game Reserve and we try to take in the beautiful Rust De Winter Dam scenery on take off (wind allowing). We have been flying our balloons in Dinokeng for five years and we know the area well ensuring the best possible handling of flights and retrievals for our passengers.

The Game Reserve is 40 km north of Pretoria on the N1 highway. We have a number of take off sites but our recommended and preferred launch site is at the Rust De Winter dam which is an extra (worthwhile) 20 minute drive from the N1 highway off ramp opposite Hammanskraal.

Your hosts will be Megan or Alan Roxton Wiggill who own Big Sky Ballooning and who live in the Dinokeng Game Reserve. Alan and Megan strive to ensure that you get the best possible experience from your game reserve ballooning safari and welcome any special requests you may have for the flight.

Because hot air balloons are very weight sensitive we require the weight of each passenger, along with their name and ID number (or passport number) prior to the flight top ensure we have the best possible balloon configuration for your flight. We have a wide range of balloons at our disposal from our operators and can handle most sizes of parties flying.

Kruger Park - Tamboti
Kruger Park - Tamboti (Website)

Tamboti tented camp is a small camp situated on the banks of the Timbavati River, on the western boundary of the Kruger National Park, approximately 2 km east of Orpen Rest Camp. Due to the size and location of this camp, Tamboti is one of the most popular camps in the Park. A great feature is a boma, which makes it ideal for small groups of people to gather around the campfire and relive the animal sightings of the day. For the birding enthusiasts, Tamboti offers a bird hide in which to spend hours looking for that exclusive raptor that has up to now eluded you. The natural bush feeling is kept inside the camp, which has the result of emphasizing guest privacy.
